It is hard to imagine a world without the teddy bear. They are everywhere. We all had a favorite one growing up. Children often become so attached to their teddy bears that it is difficult to separate a child from a bear at bath and meal times. As adults, we still give them out on special occasions. Teddy bears were developed, simultaneously, by two toymakers - one in the US, and one in Germany. The toymakers Morris Michtom and Richard Steiff, both created variations on the teddy bear, and put them in their respective shop windows, in 1903. The bears were named after the president, Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, and were an instant hit. Over the years, they have gone from looking similar to stuffed bear cubs to having a variety of fanciful shapes and sizes.
